Du kannst nicht leugnen, woher du kommst, heißt es. Auf das Singer-Songwriter-Duo VOLK trifft das durchaus zu: Chris Lowe stammt aus Texas, Eleot Wilhelmine Reich aus Kalifornien, seit zweieinhalb Jahren leben sie in Berlin. Vom Stereotyp moderner Großstädter könnten beide allerdings nicht weiter entfernt sein. Mit Cowboykrawatte zum Jeanshemd beschwören sie den Wilden Westen ihrer US-Heimat herauf. Vintage ist für das Duo aber nicht nur ein Kleidungsstil, sondern ein Lebensgefühl.
VOLK feiert das Analoge in der Musik. Hier ertönt kein vorprogrammierter Beat aus den Boxen. Chris und Eleot setzen auf Schlagzeug, Gitarre und zwei kraftvolle Stimmen. Mit Schweiß und schwieligen Fingern erschaffen sie handfesten Country Rock’n’Roll. Die Einflüsse: Big Mama Thornton, Townes Van Zandt und Ennio Morricone.
Chris und Eleot gründeten die Band im September 2013, nachdem sie sich in der Berliner Open-Mic-Szene kennenlernten. Im Februar erscheint die erste gemeinsame Maxi-Single auf 12“-Vinyl. Der passende Titel: “Boutique Western Swing Compositions”.
You can’t deny where you are from, they say. This is quite the case for the Singer/Songwriter duo VOLK: Chris Lowe is from Texas, Eleot Wilhelmine Reich from California; both have been living in Berlin for the last two and a half years. But they couldn’t be more far away from the stereotype of modern cities. With a cowboy tie and a jeans shirt they invoke the Wild West spirit of their home country. Vintage is for them not just a style of clothes, rather a sense of life.
VOLK celebrate the analog part in music. There is no preprogrammed beat coming out of the speakers, just Chris and Eleot’s guitar play, their drums and their two vigorous voices. With sweat and calloused hands they create sturdy Country Rock’n’Roll. Their influences: Big Mama Thornton, Townes Van Zandt and Ennio Morricone.
Chris and Eleot founded the band in September 2013 after running into each other in the Open-Mic scene. In February their first maxi single is going to be released on a 12“-vinyl. The suiting title: “Boutique Western Swing Compositions”.
