Vor nicht allzu langer Zeit waren Skiing zu fünft. Aber Schlagzeuger Will, der als Koch arbeitet, ist nach Brighton gezogen und so geht die Reise für Everett, Joel, Phil und Daniel als Quartett weiter. Für Wehmut bleibt zum Glück wenig Zeit. Seit Mitte Juli ist das zweite Studioalbum “Holly” erhältlich, das die Jungs mit viel Leidenschaft auf die Bühne bringen wollen. Will wirkte an den Aufnahmen noch mit.
In der Musik verarbeiten die internationalen Bandmitglieder ihr Leben in der neuen Heimat Berlin, mal mit ironischem Unterton (“The Complaint of a Berlin Punk”), mal schwermütig (“Graveyard”). Über allem schweben die sanften Stimmen von Everett und Joel, die dem Garage Indie-Sound eine leichte Beach Boys-Note verleihen. Um das Artwork des neuen Albums kümmerte sich übrigens Everetts Mutter. Sie ließ sich vom Albumtitel inspirieren, der übersetzt Stechpalme heißt. Die Zweige mit den roten Früchten sind in Nordamerika eine beliebte Weihnachtsdekoration. Zur diesjährigen sommerlichen Festivalsaison passen sie aber auch sehr gut.
Not so long ago, Skiing had five band members. However, drummer Will, that works as a chef, moved to Brighton and therefore the other band members Everett, Joel, Phil and Daniel will continue their journey as a quartet. Fortunately, there is not much time for melancholy. The second studio album “Holly” is available since mid July and the boys want to perform it on stage with lots of passion. Drummer Will also contributed to the recordings.
The international band members uses their music to process their life in their second home berlin – sometimes with an ironic undertone (“The Complaint of a Berlin Punk”) and sometimes a little bit more mournfully (“Graveyard”). The mellow voices of Everett and Joel hover over the Garage-Indie sound, giving it a gentle Beach Boys touch. And by the way, Everetts mother created the artwork of the new record. She got her inspiration from the album title “Holly”. The branches with the red fruits are a popular Christmas decoration in North America. But they also fit to this years summer music festival season.
