Inspired by 60s psychedelic music: Magic & Naked
Kaum zu glauben, das Magic & Naked aus Genf im Hier und Jetzt leben. Die Musik der vier Schweizer erinnert an Woodstock, Hippies, Syd Barrett und Neil Young. In Songs wie “You don’t get it” oder “The Glance” verbinden sie spielerisch Folkmelodien mit psychedelischen Gitarrenriffs. Man könnte meinen, Romain, Elie, Léonard und Augustin seien altersweise, denn von Ehrfurcht vor den großen Vorbildern fehlt jede Spur. In Wirklichkeit sind sie aber 18 Jahre und ihre Band nicht einmal ein Jahr alt.
Die Anfänge von Magic & Naked liegen in der Schulzeit von Romain und Elie. Im Rahmen eines Schulprojektes, das für jeden verpflichtend war, produzierten sie das Album “Inner Child” in Eigenregie: Elie übernahm Lead-Gesang und Bass, Romain Gitarre und gelegentlich das Schlagzeug. Das Songwriting teilten sich die Schulfreunde. Um die zehn Songs von “Inner Child” live gut umsetzen zu können, vergrößerten sie ihr Projekt im September 2013 um den Gitarristen Léonard und den Schlagzeuger Augustin – Magic & Naked ward geboren. Sie kennen sich bereits aus anderen Musikprojekten: Léonard und Romain spielen zusammen in der Band The Cats Never Sleep. Augustin und Elie treten mit The Tangerine auf.
In der Genfer Musikszene konnte Magic & Naked bereits kleine Erfolge feiern: Die Künstler traten im Mai beim Swiss Psych Fest auf und eröffneten auf dem Face Z Festival 2013 die Auftritte von The Oscillation (UK) und Night Beats (US). Beim Fever Creek Festival in Berlin werden die Vier ihren ersten Deutschland-Gig spielen.
The Swiss band Magic & Naked create music that seems to be of another decade. It reminds the listener of Woodstock, Hippies, Syd Barrett and Neil Young. With songs like “You don’t get it” or “The Glance” the four musicians connect playfully Folk sounds with psychedelic guitar riffs. You could think Romain, Elie, Léonard and Augustin are wise and old, because they seem to be not standing in awe of their great idols. However, they are just 18 years old and their band not even one year of age.
The origins of Magic & Naked can be traced back to the school time of Romain and Elie. Within the scope of a school project, that everyone had to participate in, they produced the record “Inner Child” on their own: Elie as a lead singer and bass player, Romain played the guitar and from time to time the drums. Both friends wrote the lyrics. For the live adaptation of the 10 songs on “Inner Child” they got together in September 2013 with the guitarist Léonard and the drummer Augustin – Magic & Naked was born. They know each other from other music projects: Léonard und Romain also perform in a band called The Cats Never Sleep. Augustin and Elie can be seen on stage with The Tangerine.
In Geneva’s music scene Magic & Naked could already celebrate small successes. The artists performed in May at the Swiss Psych Festival. Last year they played as an opening act at the Face Z Festival for The Oscillation (UK) and Night Beats (US). At the Fever Creek Festival they will have their first German gig.
