Very Rock’n’Roll: The Hans from Berlin

The Hans zu ergoogeln, ist schwer. Da taucht in den Suchergebnissen weit oben das Hans Hotel in Neu Delhi auf, nicht der Sänger. Auf TripAdvisor wird das Hotel mit 4 ½ Sterne bewertet. Ganz gut. Kann man sich ja mal merken… Eine The Hans Foundation steht in Neu Delhi auch. Kommt The Hans wohl doch nicht aus Berlin, sondern aus Indien?
Über seine Person gibt der Musiker nicht viel Preis. Sicher ist nur: Er kommt wirklich aus Berlin und ist nach eigenen Angaben “der uneheliche Sohn von Ray Davies, der rechtmäßige Erbe von Bo Diddley (wahrscheinlich), Iggys rechte Faust, Bowies schwarzes Auge.” Und The Monks könnten seine Onkels sein. Nimmt man die Musik zusammen, kommt der The Hans-Sound raus, eine Art beschwingter Rock’n’Roll.
Der Berliner nimmt sich selbst und die Musik nicht so ernst: Er schreibt humorvolle, ironische Texte oder komponiert auch mal Surfmusik für deutsche Bierwerbung im Radio. Seine Auftritte sind selten, aber unterhaltsam: Mit Gitarre Peggy – “wir haben uns auf Ebay kennengelernt: ‘Alte Gitarre, leider verstimmt.'” – spielte er jüngst als Vorband von Hinds, damals noch Deers. Neben dem Gig im Antje Öklesund spielt er hier und da auf Solokonzerten im Sisyphos, Weser 58 und anderen Berliner Clubs.
Die nächste Chance, um The Hans kennenzulernen, bietet sich auf dem Fever Creek Festival.

The Hans is almost ungoogleable. One of the first search results is the Hans Hotel in New Dehli, but not the musician. On TripAdvisor the hotel has a 4 ½ star ranking. Pretty good. That’s something to keep in mind… A The Hans foundation is also located in New Dehli. So is The Hans actually not from Berlin but from India?
The musician does not share a lot about his person. What is for sure: He is really from the capital city and due to his own statements “the illegitimate son of Ray Davies, the rightful heir of Bo Diddley (most likely), Iggy’s right fist, Bowie’s black eye.” And The Monks could be his uncles. If you put together the music of the former musicians, the The Hans sound is the result, a sort of buoyant Rock’n’Roll.
The Berliner does not take himself and his music too seriously: He writes humouristic, ironic lyrics or composes Surfmusic for German beer advertisement on the radio. His performances are rarely but entertaining: With his guitar Peggy – “we met on Ebay: ‘Old guitar, sadly untuned.'” – he played just recently as an opening act of Hinds, then known as Deers. Next to the Gig at the Antje Öklesund he plays here and there at soloconcerts at the Sisyphos, Weser 58 and other clubs in Berlin. The next opportunity to get to know The Hans will be at the Fever Creek Festival.
