Father Midnight vereinen alles, was wir seit dem Ende der White Stripes vor zehn Jahren vermissen: coole Riffs, wilde Drums und eine kraftvolle Stimme, die keine Höhen scheut. Da hören aber auch schon die Gemeinsamkeiten mit der US-Kultband auf. Die Formation rund um Sänger Philipp legt sich kein minimalistisches Sound- und Farbkonzept zu. Ihm steht auch keine “Schwester” zur Seite, sondern Schlagzeuger Lucas und Bassist Jochen. Sie erkunden spielerisch die komplexe Wucht des Psych Blues Rock.

Zusammengefunden 2014 in einem Berliner Proberaum spielen die Drei mal als Straßenmusiker auf der Oberbaumbrücke, mal auf großen Bühnen wie dem Astra oder Badehaus. Ihre Debüt-EP brachten die Jungs Mitte 2015 heraus. Mit der Single “Under wrong conditions” erschien diesen August auch endlich der Vorbote auf neues Material.

Wer ist Father Midnight?

Father Midnight ist der schamanische Name unseres spirituellen Mentors. Weder im Gestern, im Heute oder im Morgen manifestiert sich sein Geist. Er ist das Dazwischen, die Mitternacht.

Was habt Ihr musikalisch vor eurer Gründung gemacht?

Die Lehren von Father Midnight sind auch vorher schon eine Quelle der Inspiration gewesen. Sie leben in unserer Musik, atmen in unseren Texten und entladen sich in der Energie unserer Shows. Sie haben uns im Laufe der Jahre zu den Zeremonienmeistern gemacht, die wir heute sind. Davor waren wir nichts.

Mit Midnight Father habt Ihr eine EP veröffentlicht, viele Shows gegeben und jüngst im Finale des Bandwettbewerbs Emergenza gespielt. Was kommt als nächstes?

Emer…was? Lass uns nicht darüber reden. Das ist uns ein bisschen peinlich. Wir haben gerade Songs auf unserer Ranch aufgenommen, gelegen in den schwitzigen Sümpfen vor Berlin, und werden in naher Zukunft das Material veröffentlichen.

Father Midnight combine everything what we miss since the break up of The White Stripes ten years ago: cool riffs, wild drums and a powerful voice, that is not afraid of heights. But that is where the similarities end. The band around singer Philipp did not get a minimalistic sound or color concept. He also has no “sister” by his side, but drummer Lucas and bass player Jochen. Together they explore playfully the complexity of Psych Blues Rock.

Founded 2014 in a rehearsal room in Berlin Father Midnight play from time to time as street musicians on the Oberbaumbrücke but also on bigger stages such as Astra and Badehaus. Their debut record was released in mid 2015. The new single “Under wrong conditions” is out now and makes you curious to hear more from the new material.

Who is Father Midnight?

Father Midnight is the shamanic name of our spiritual mentor. His spirit is manifested not in yesterday, nor in today or tomorrow. He is the in-between, the midnight.

What did you do musically before the band foundation?

The teachings of Father Midnight were even before a fountain of inspiration. They live through our music, breathe in our lyrics and unload in the energy of our show. In the course of time we became the masters of ceremonies that we are today. Before that, we were nothing.

With Midnight Father you released an EP, played many shows and participated recently in the finale of the band contest Emergenza. What’s next?

Emer…what? Let us not talk about that. It’s a little bit embarrassing. We just recorded some songs at our ranch, located in the sweaty swamps outside of Berlin and will release the material in the near future.
